jack's 15 month update

This is a few weeks late, but since Jack was sick we couldn't have his "Kan-Be Healthy" visit with Dr. Mijares until yesterday! So Jack weighed 22 pounds 8 ounces and was only 29.5 inches long! Poor guy, still a shorty!

We had our development evaluation with Ashley (she is married to one of Chris' friends from Columbus, so we know her)! Everything looked good - except the gross motor, which we are all aware of! She gave him lots of little tests to do, one was so simple that Jack was like what the heck are you making me do this?! She gave him an empty water bottle and put 2 little cereal puffs and wanted him to get the puffs out...duh! She promptly turned the bottle over and dumped out the puffs, then she asked him to put them back in the bottle - so he did! She asked him to do it one more time and he looked at her, dumped out the puffs then shoved them in his mouth! It was too funny!

Jack is saying quite a few words, in his eval they look for 3-6 words - here is his list: mama, dada, no, tank cue (thank you), baaaallllll (ball), dog, K (ok), hi, hey, bye, ba-bye, uh-oh, huh-uh (not sure that's a word, but we'll count it). I think that's about it. We are now focused on learning our animals and body parts! I'm excited to see how many he knows by his 18 month appointment!

Jack has also been sprouting teeth like nobody's business! He has 4 on top and 2 (working on 3) on the bottom! All of this in the last 6-8 weeks!

Jack still IS NOT walking! There I said it...gasp! How dare he!? Well that's what I feel like people think when they learn he isn't walking! He is getting close, he is progressing, I'm not worried! Jack has always been one to do things at his own pace on his own time! I'll give it another month or so and I think he'll be running! I have witnessed a couple steps here and there on his own, but I think he just needs a little more confidence!

UPDATE: I picked Jack up yesterday from daycare and Tonya informed me that she had discovered the reason for Jack's bad attitude - his first molar popped through! Poor baby! And he is swollen really bad in the back on both top and bottom!

This picture is of me at 16 weeks pregnant. It makes me mad/sad because I'm still a huge FAT A$$ and would love to resemble anything close to this picture again - even at 16 weeks pregnant.

favorite quote

I'm not going to proclaim this as an all time favorite quote because I'm really not too keen on quotes or have a ton of them memorized, but I saw this awhile back as a FB status of one of my friends and it totally hit home with me...

This quote immediately took me back to my younger years when I was the epidomy of a real life "mean girl"! No really, hard to believe, I know, but it's absolutely 100% true and I can totally admit that now. Now as a young adult, wife and mother -I have definitely tried to change and recognize that my actions and words will, can, and do affect other people.

Those of you that have known me through both phases of my life, I hope you all agree! Thanks for sticking with me - even when I was a "mean girl"! :-)

favorite book

This is going to be a hard one...really! I don't like/enjoy reading at all - never have! Sad, I know, but true none the less. I have been sitting here for several minutes trying to remember even the last book I read and I got nothin'! Seriously! Nothing - no recolletction at all! I can't even remember reading a book in college (did anyone actually read their text books in college?), and not even a clue about college!

So I will default to my favorite types of books from when I was younger (elementary and middle school age) and I would always, always, always gravitate towards books about WWII and the Nazi Prison Camps and how the Jewish people would hide for days, weeks, months, years... In the end the only book I can remember with the title is "The Diary of Anne Frank". I loved it, but it was sad in the end.

favorite tv show

hi, my name is darci and i'm a tvaholic! i mean tv is my "me time" if that even really exists anymore...but my all time favorite show is Criminal Minds! love it! i have a lot of shows i enjoy watching including, but not limited to, CSI (the original), The Mentalist (he is so cute), Drop Dead Diva, Army Wives, and then all REALITY SHOWS! right now i'm addicted to Big Brother, but it's almost over so then it will be Survivor and The Amazing Race! I love all the Bravo shows - Flipping Out, The Rachel Zoe Project, all of the Real Housewives (NJ is the best), Bethany Getting Married, all of them! I'm also watching Project Runway on Lifetime right now too!

favorite movie

I hate to admit it, but ever since I graduated college (and left the wild, party days behind) I have become a huge "movie-watcher". Even since we've had Jack we still watch a ton of movies! There are many a weekends where I will seriously watch 5 movies in a day and a half - pathetic I know! Ha!

Point is - there are tons of movies to choose from for a favorite! But I'll be cheesy and go with "A Walk To Remember", I was obsessed with this movie and it still makes me cry every single time I watch it!

Favorite current movie is "The Back-Up Plan" with Jennifer Lopez! It's a chick flick, but also really funny - Chris even laughed a few times and didn't complain to the entire time about how dumb it was! That says something!

A few friends of mine (and theirs) have joined up for a 30 day blog challenge! It's the whole month of September (feel free to join in) and today is Day 1.

Today's topic is Favorite Song, now I've had many faves in the past, but right now I'm diggin' Eminem (again - oh senior year of high school, how the memories start flowing!) in a big way! "Love the Way You Lie" is #1 on my Ipod playlist!

However, Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" is a close second! Chris particuarly likes when I sing it in the car, at the top of my lungs! No really, he appreciates it! He appreciates is so much so that he has threatened to NEVER again ride in the car with me! :-)

sicky sickerton

Over the weekend I noticed Jack felt a little warmer than usual, but chopped it up to teething because he wasn't acting any different. Well yesterday morning I took him to daycare and told Tonya he felt a little warm that morning so I gave him Tylenol, but that I thought it was just teething and told her to call me if he got any worse...9:15am I get a text from Tonya saying his temp shot up to 102 - 103 degrees! Needless to say I HAD to go get him.

On my way I scheduled him an appointment to see the doctor (or nurse practitioner since our doctor works at a satelite clinic on Mondays and the other doctor at the clinic was booked FULL). In the mean time Jack is fussy and just wanted to sleep and sleep! We got to the clinic and didn't wait long before we were seen by the doctor (he was loopy and I was not impressed), but he said it looks like he has some type of bacterial infection mixed with a sinus infection - say what? Anyway, he said his lymph nodes in his neck were swollen and there was lots of redness and swelling in his nose. We got an antibiotic and he sent us on our way...

I thought - easy enough... until I checked my voicemail last night only to hear Tonya saying, "I won't be open tomorrow. After you picked Jack up this morning Piper (her 3 year old) spiked a 104 degree temp and they took her to the doctor (after her husband got home from work at 2pm) and they think she either has 1) Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease or 2) Fifth's Disease"...GREAT! I'm familiar with HFandM as it has already made it's rounds through daycare since Jack started, but I still need to look into what 5th's is? Needless to say now I'm FREAKING out b/c I'm hoping Jack doesn't have one of these common/fairly common childhood illnesses that our doctor, I mean nurse practitioner who obviously didn't specialize or even see babies that often, wouldn't be familiar with...I guess I'll just have to see how today goes.

Jack is home with Chris today since I was out of the office yesterday...I'm taking bets on what time everyone thinks it will be before Chris calls me and says, "What is his problem? He has been crying and screaming ever since you left!" Haha!
