That is NOT the question - of course we are...but which method do you chose?
As part of our pediatrician visit this morning we discussed whether or not we were going to have him circumsized...well heck yes we are! The doctor then described the two methods of circumcision - #1 Gomco Method - this is where they actually cut the foreskin away, she said that post care is having to put vaseline and gauze on it everytime you change his diaper as well as just keeping the area clean. #2 Plastibell Method - this is where they pull the foreskin back and put a plastic ring on, then pull the skin back up and then tie a string around it cutting off the blood supply and then after a week or so the dead foreskin will fall off.
I asked which method was more common and she said she does more of the Gomco procedures, and before I could ask which method was more invasive or which one was easier/more comfortable for the baby - Chris interjects, we'll do that one! OK - thanks for discussing this with me?! Dr. said most people like Gomco b/c you can see the results immediately versus waiting a week or so? I'm like I don't care about immediate results - I care about making my little man comfortable and anytime you cut anything there is a chance for infection and other complications. Chris and I may be discussing this more at a later date before anything is done...

We had the first one. I don't remember even having an option. (?)She said he did really great with it. They give them sugar water before which give them a natural high and she SAID they don't really feel it. I will choose to believe that. lol
Darci,
Even w/ the plastibell circ, they still have to cut him. They have to stick a probe in between the glans and foreskin to separate it and then cut the foreskin down a bit. You can see videos on line about it. This is a good one, it shows various methods including the gomco:

And seriously, if you think sugar water will really produce a high and prevent pain, ask for sugar instead of an epidural during your labor and delivery. The truth is many babies pass out briefly due to pain and the nurses just tell the mom that the baby "did fine" because that's what they are told to say. I know this - I'm a nurse.
There is no real reason to circumcise except if your husband is really insecure about looking different. But you know what, he WILL look different - he'll be much larger and have hair down there. How much penile comparisons will take place at your home anyway? Not many. The baby won't be an exact copy of either one of you, he'll be his own person. Please don't circumcise your son. At the very least, please research all the pros on cons of both sides. I don't mean just take my advice but look into all aspects for yourself.
But know the Academy of Pediatrics doesn't recommend routine circumcision and some babies suffer bad side effects after circumcision. Why risk it? Circ rates are way down nationally. In Kansas I still think it's something like 70/30 or 60/40, but your son won't be the only one with intact foreskin if you don't circ.

This is the Penn and Teller Showtime special where they talk about the pros and cons of circumcision in their special, funny and odd way:

Especially see the post about Cassidy from a myspace group. See her son Hayden's photos. You really don't want that to happen to your baby.
Good luck!
After watching a circ, I will never do it again. I would suggest researching this topic in depth. Times, attitudes, and research have changed greatly.
